Curriculum
Regina Maria Academy offers a Catholic classical education integrating faith and reason, fostering the intellectual and spiritual growth of children through the cultivation of attention, memory, imagination and logical thinking. With the Holy Trinity at the center of all Truth and Love, and Queen Mary as our school’s loving role model, the RMA classroom will offer compassionate support to each child of God as they develop new learning skills. The RMA content-rich curriculum will include wholesome classic literature recommended by the Cardinal Newman Society, inspiring the formation of good virtues, including respect, honesty, compassion, hard work, and gratitude. Our multi grade level classrooms, and school wide faith and academic activities offer opportunities for group study and independent learning. All curriculum materials are vetted to help students meet the curriculum standards put forth by the Catholic School Office of the Diocese of Manchester.
Theology - The Theology curriculum combines direct instruction in Catholic doctrines and teachings with Christian behavior, service to others, and participation in prayer and the sacramental life of the Church. It is an integral part of the school’s curriculum and permeates every aspect of school life. We depend upon the Spirit of Truth curriculum from Sophia Press.
English Language Arts - The school’s Language Arts curriculum stresses strong grammar skills and exposes the students to all forms of literature. In addition, Phonics instruction in grades 1-3 provides the students with a strong base for success in advanced reading skills.
Math - The Math selection for RMA will provide a learning structure proven to advance students steadily and assuredly to higher levels of understanding. Concepts from every math strand are woven together and connected throughout the year. Skills or concepts are reinforced throughout the years, helping students build a strong foundation of understanding.
Science - The Elevate Science program by Savvas supports the investigation of phenomena, engineering solutions, and requires students to demonstrate their understanding of key concepts. Elevate Science connects the heart of science knowledge with the science of “doing.” Students exhibit proficiency in key science concepts, integrate math and engineering practices, experience phenomena to build scientific and engineering understanding, and build and design solutions to real world problems.
Social Studies - Social Science is the study of society and the relationship of individual members within society. We use this knowledge to uncover the truth of our connection with one another through time and across geographic barriers. This study helps to discover the deeper truth of each one’s relationship with God.
Art - Using Art with a Purpose from Catholic Heritage Curricula as a guide, students will expand their art skills by learning, among other things, to color using directional lines, shading to bring out depth, feathering, drawing with grids, 3 dimensional artwork, lateral symmetry, sketching with circles, and how to draw simple facial features.
Music – Music is an essential part of a classical education. St. Hildegard of Bingen believed that music was a way to express human nature and to connect with God. Students will learn the fundamentals of music, and participate in several performances throughout the school year.
Library – The Regina Maria Academy library will offer students wholesome and age-appropriate books for study and enjoyment. In addition, the school may use the Chesley Memorial Library in Northwood.
Physical Education - RMA offers weekly Physical Education in addition to the RMA Outdoor Classroom, integrating learning with physical activity.
